Removing the engine
- Raise the front end of the vehicle and drain the fluid in the car.
- Drain the engine oil and coolant into a drain pan once the fender covers are installed on the fenders.
- If there are any plastic covers covering the engine, remove them. Remove any filter housings or air intake tubes. This can be done when the fluids are draining.
- Any hardware that is removed should be put in sandwich bags and labeled so that they don’t get misplaced.
- Remove the radiator once all the fluids have been drained and hardware have been removed. Before the engine is removed, the radiators are removed to prevent damage.
- Disconnect heater hoses that are joined to firewalls.
- Unplug the starter and the battery. Disconnect the battery, connectors, and harnesses.
- Examine the engine using a flashlight to ensure no connectors have been missed.
- Unplug the starter located at the bottom of the engine.
- Remove the exhaust manifold and the starter. Unbolt the exhaust manifold from the downpipes and, if needed, from the engine’s cylinder heads.
- Disconnect the air compressor from the belts. Unbolt the AC compressor from the engine.
- Finally, remove the engine from the car’s transmission and unbolt it. Unscrew the bolt and remove the engine from the transmission bell housing via unscrewing the bolts.
- Place the engine hoist on the engine. Secure the chains to the engine in a manner that is secure and safe. Specific engines come with built-in hooks. The engine can be attached to these hooks. In other cases, you will have to add a bolt and washer via the chain links.
- Unscrew the bolts and motor mounts.
- Remove the engine from the vehicle altogether. Get anyone to assist you during this stage since engines are pretty heavy.
Installing the new engine
- Keep the engine on a stand. Make sure that it is an engine stand.
- Put the hoist on top of the engine stand. Use washers, bolts, and knobs to bind the engine to its frame.
- Use high-grade bolts to avoid breaking under the engine’s weight.
- Disassemble the engine. Check and clean every part. If any part is not functioning properly, replace it.
- Install new piston rings, camshaft bearings and replace freeze plugs.
After this, you must reassemble the engine. Reinstall the main bearings, crankshaft, and caps. Lubricate each journal and bearing generously with assembly grease. Install back the pistons, camshafts, timing components, gaskets, valve train, covers, etc. Finally, reinstall the engine into the vehicle.
