7 Things To Contemplate Before Painting Your Space

2 Mins read

Painting alone can transform the appearance of a place, automatically increasing its value. In interior design, painting is one of the least expensive elements to change a place’s looks. However, there are several tips you need to learn that will make painting easier for you. They include:

Prepping the Room

Painting becomes so much easier when nothing is in your way.  Therefore, you need to empty the room before you start. If you are painting the living room, you can move the furniture to the center of the room and then cover them with a large cloth or an old sheet. Wipe the walls, too, especially if you are repainting. There is dirt that has built up, and it may alter the appearance of the paint.

Sample the Paint Color

At times, you may not be sure how a color will look on the walls. You can test the paint by applying it and observing how it appears during the day and night. This gives you an idea of how the walls will look like with that color. Even your favorite color that you wanted might not be ideal for your walls. So you can sample a few and find which goes with the design of your home.

You Can be Experimental

You do not have to stick to common colors like white, beige, or cream. Try out different colors and see how it looks. If you have large rooms with high ceilings, try dark colors- they add depth and texture to a room. For small rooms with little natural light, test light and bright colors-they will make the room feel large. You can also request the services of Pacific Coat Painting to help you with the painting.

Choose an Appropriate Finish

The finish or sheen you choose matters at the end of the painting process; choose wisely. A high gloss paint finish is easy to clean and durable but also highlights imperfections on the wall. A flat paint finish may hide these imperfections, but it can easily be damaged. Most painters will suggest an eggshell finish as a more suitable choice.

Paint is not Permanent

Paint is one of those elements that can be changed easily. You may find that the paint you chose was ideal at first, but you find it too overwhelming when you are done with the entire wall. The good thing is that you can change the paint color again. It will cost you more than what you had planned for, but it is affordable. If you have painted all four walls, you can change three or two sides and leave the rest. Find a color that blends with what you had initially and make your space stand out.

Approximate How Much Paint Is Needed

It can be frustrating to run out of paint in the middle of a paint job. You either have to run to the store and get another one or order online. First, to avoid this, measure the square footage of your room so that you do not buy too much or too little.  If the walls are not primed, you will need more coats of paint. Also, ask for advice from a painter or the store attendant. They will approximate how much paint you will need depending on the size of your room.

Use Quality Supplies

Do not shy away from spending money on the quality paintbrush, roller, or paint. When you get quality products, you are ensured that the results will be of quality. Also, ensure that you have acquired all the necessary supplies for painting, from a ladder to roller extenders. This will make your work easier.

Painting does not have to be a tiresome activity when you follow the above steps. Just prep the room and get started. If you are not sure of your skills, then outsource a painter’s services to help you with the process.
