How to Take Care of Your Skin in the Summer

The summer is always a time for fun in the sun. But it can be tough to take care of your skin when you’re outdoors all day long. Here are 8 tips on how to keep your skin healthy and beautiful this summer!

  1. Stay Hydrated- We may experience a loss of water from sweating, evaporation, and digestion. In order to keep your skin from dehydrating, you should drink at least two liters of water a day. It is also important to stay cool during the summer months. You can simply lower your room temperature or go for a swim in the pool if you have one available.
  2. Use Sunscreen (Sun Protection Factor)- It is important to wear sunscreen when spending time in the sun. Remember that the sun is strongest between 10 am and 2 pm, so avoid exposure during these times if possible. Look for a sunscreen that has at least an SPF of 15, but 30+ is recommended.
  3. Wear Sunglasses- Although it may seem somewhat obvious, sunglasses are an important part of skincare for the summer. They help protect your eyes from UV rays that can cause cataracts and even blindness.
  4. Use a Hair Mask- Hair is exposed to many negative factors throughout the day, including chlorine from swimming pools, UV rays from the sun, and styling tools that can be very damaging to hair. In order to help your hair stay healthy over the summer, it is recommended to use a hair mask at least once a week.
  5. Use an Exfoliator-Dead skin cells accumulate on our face throughout the day, and exfoliation is a great way to remove those dead cells and reveal a healthy glow underneath. You can purchase an exfoliator from your local beauty store or simply make one at home with baking soda and olive oil.
  6. Avoid Outdoor Activities during Peak Hours- It is important to avoid outdoor activities during peak hours when the sun is at its strongest. Remember that these times are between 10 am and 2 pm, so adjust your schedule accordingly.
  7. Use a Moisturizer- Moisturizers help hydrate your skin and prevent it from becoming dry. If you have oily skin, you may want to skip this step since moisturizers can cause more oil production on the face, which leads to acne breakouts.
  8. Avoid Heat-Producing Foods- Certain foods can cause the body to heat up internally. Avoiding these foods entirely during the summer months is a great way to prevent overheating and overheating skin. Some common heat-producing foods include alcohol, spices, chocolate, etc.

We hope these 8 summer skincare tips have been helpful. Whether you’re traveling, lounging on the beach, or just trying to beat that office AC without sweating too much, we all need some help taking care of our skin in this hot weather!
